FEATURE SPOTLIGHT: DR. OLIVIA HOLMES GILES, DEPT. OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

Dr. Olivia Holmes-Giles has been a Registered Nurse for 19 years.  Prior to becoming a Registered Nurse, she practiced as an Licensed Practical Nurse for three years. Dr. Giles has served in numerous leadership roles throughout her career. She is currently the Associate Director for Patient Care Services at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) in Shreveport, LA.  


Olivia is also an adjunct nursing instructor for the RN to BSN program at Northwestern State University, Shreveport, LA.  Dr. Giles received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA; her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA. She also received a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Research College of Nursing in Kansas City, MO. As a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), she has championed diversity in the healthcare workforce. She served as Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Louisiana American College of Healthcare Executives (LAACHE) as well as a member of the Board of Directors for approximately three years. She also served as Chair of the VA ACHE Regents Advisory Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee for three years. She currently serves as a member of the LANPAC Nominating Committee of which she served one year as Chair. 


Dr. Giles is certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center in both Ambulatory Care and as a Nurse Executive, Advanced. She also holds Green Belt certification in LEAN management. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Shreveport District Nurses Association, Louisiana State Nurses Association, and the Nurses Organization for Veterans Affairs.
